Friday 29th July

Single train journey over two lines to get near Tokyo Skytree, arriving in the complex below it. The photograph doesn't do the height of the tower any justice.

On the way up we were distracted by a shop with Totoro, one of my favourite Studio Ghibli characters.

After a lengthy queue for tickets, we headed on up to the lower floor, Skyward Eye deck which is 350m up, to enjoy the 360o view. Unfortunately, there was a haze so, sadly, we were unable to see Mt Fuji. There is an option to travel further up to the Skyward Eye corridor which is at 450m.

The white building to the right of the picture, which looks bit like a large shinkansen, is the Metropolitan Edo-Tokyo Museum. This shows 400 years of the Edo-Tokyo era through original and replica objects of the period.

The right hand building in the centre of the picture is the headquarters of Asahi Breweries. It is amber coloured apart from the top which is white. This is to make it look like a nicely poured glass of "Beeru", lager.

We had an icecream, as below, with the wafer showing an image of the Skytree tower.

After the delights of the Icecream, we were able to stand over the glass floor looking down on the street below.
